Hello. My name is Dr. Jody Brucker. For those of you that are under the age of 21 please call me Mr. Brucker, and for those of you that are greater than 21, please call me Jody.
I am so EXCITED to finally become a Crusader like you and my wife’s 3 generations of family members including herself. The fact that this opportunity has presented itself is amazing. I have been waiting for something like this since I first moved here in 2014. We are going to have some fun, learn stuff and do things that you may keep for the rest of your life. At least that is what happened to me when I did PE and Health as a young person. I truly believe that the lessons will help everyone grow their knowledge physically, emotionally, and spiritually because we will develop our bodies, leadership skills, and faith of the most fantastic creation ever, the human body.
Even though I couldn’t be a Crusader at St. Mary’s, I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada am an alumni of the Catholic School system. I attended St. Mathew’s, St. Benedict’s, St. Cyril’s, Bishop Carroll and Bishop Grandin in Calgary. After attending Mount Royal College were I earned an Associate’s degree (1993) in Physical Education I came to the United States to further my education. Up until 2002 I earned a Baccalaureate degree (1995) in Physical Education and Exercise Science from Fort Hays State University, KS; a Master’s degree (1996) in Physical Education and Athletic Training from The Ohio University, OH; and a Ph.D. (2002) from Brigham Yong University, UT in Exercise Science, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Other than those places I have also lived and taught in Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, and now in Illinois for over 20+ years. The last couple years I have been a Paraprofessional in a Special Education room with grade 6, 7, and 8 students with varying intellectual disabilities at Bloomington Junior High School. Therefore, you can see that physical education and health are second nature to me and I love them very much and hope to help you love them too.
As mentioned, I have been in the area since 2014, but what I didn’t mention is that I truly feel at home here in Bloomington. I look to stay here and at St. Mary’s for the rest of my capable life teaching Physical Education and Health.
