Hello! I’m Kelly Gentsch, and I have been teaching for 18 years. I am from Saunemin, IL, and I went to Pontiac Township High School. I graduated from Illinois State University twice! The first time I graduated with dual degrees in elementary education and special education with a minor in Psychology. A few years later I graduated with my master’s degree in special education. When I first started teaching, I had the privilege to return and teach at both of my old schools alongside my former teachers at Saunemin Grade School and PTHS. Now, I live in Normal with my husband, Jude, and my children Cole and Maddie.
My kids are what brought me to St. Mary’s. I stayed at home with them when they were little. Once they started school, I was here most days volunteering and helping out in the classrooms. Since I was here all of the time anyway, I decided to start substitute teaching. I did this for a year, and then the 5th grade teaching position became available! Six years later & I’m still here in 5th grade! I love teaching at St. Mary’s! Every day brings something new and different, and I love to see the “lightbulb” click when students learn something new. St. Mary’s is truly a family, and Mr. Csanda said it best when he offered my job when he said, “Welcome home!” Here at St. Mary’s, I truly feel like I am at home…where I belong!
