My name is Mrs. Mary Ann Schweers and I am the 1st grade teacher at St. Mary’s School. I feel very privileged to have the chance to teach your children to love, live, learn, and serve in our community. The welcome I have received by the staff and people of St. Mary’s Parish has been both warm and overwhelming.
I began as a student at St. Mary’s School in Mokena, Illinois and hope to one day finish as a teacher at St. Mary’s School in Bloomington, Illinois. I attended Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, IL. After high school I went to Iowa State University to play volleyball and then returned to Illinois and finished my teaching degree at Illinois State University. I completed my Master’s Degree in Special Education at ISU and continue to be a lifelong learner through educational opportunities presented in our region.
My teaching career has encompassed teaching physically disabled students at both the high school and junior high level, and teaching preschool for 8 years before moving to the first grade level. I taught in 1st grade both at Heyworth Elementary and at Pepper Ridge in the Unit 5 school district. I believe I have found a home here at St. Mary’s and hope to be here for a long time to come.
I share my life with my husband, John out in the country near Heyworth. We have 4 children and 6 grandchildren whom we love and cherish.
My classroom door is always open and I welcome getting to know more families and becoming involved with the people of St. Mary’s Parish.
